In India most of the turmeric used is of dried cured variety and depending upon the different growing areas of turmeric in India, the turmeric from India is divided into the following qualities
- Rajapore and Sangli turmeric
- Erode and Salem turmeric
- Nizamabad turmeric
- Duggirala turmeric
- Desi Cuddapah
Rajapuri and Erode are some of the important exported varieties; it is known for its high content of curcumin – a yellow coloring substance. Its bright yellow color has been preferred by spices importers in Europe. In the Middle East, USA and Japan, some of the well-accepted varieties are: ‘Erode turmeric’, ‘Rajapore’, ‘Sangli’ and ‘Nizamabad turmeric’.
Turmeric exported in the processed form is dry turmeric viz Turmeric Fingers, Turmeric Bulbs and Turmeric powder
